AHRPO Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Army Human Research Protections Office (AHPRPO) include

  • Negotiating new DoD Assurances and overseeing renewal of existing DoD Assurances for all U.S. Army institutions as well as other components and activities
  • Assessing and approving Army Human Research Protections Programs (HRPPs)
  • Developing and disseminating Army-level regulations, policy, and guidance
  • Ensuring compliance with other regulatory frameworks, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Leading and facilitating harmonization of U.S. Army human research protections regulations and policy with other DoD Components
  • Developing and publishing topical guidance documents, FAQs, templates, and other materials to assist the Army research community
  • Providing Headquarters Level Administrative Review (HLAR) as required by DoDI 3216.02 and Army policies
  • Providing Human Research Protections Official (HRPO) review as required by Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) clause (Title 48, Part 252.235-7004)
